Mission
The mission of the International Second Life (SL) Education Research Society is to provide a venue for participants of Second Life involved in teaching, learning and research to explore, develop and disseminate resources for SL participants by SL participants.
Values
The society members value:
The need for an inter-institutional and interdisciplinary society emerging from the possibilities that Immersive Worlds such as SL may present.
The need for members of Real Life (RL) institutions to collaborate and shareknowledge and best practices in the areas of teaching, learning and research
The development of communities of learners and practitioners in their collaborative endeavors
The society as an independent entity not related to Real Life Education Institutions
All participants for their knowledge and skills and participants' journey toward 'meaning making' and 'understanding' of Immersive Worlds for teaching, learning and research purposes.
Goals:
The Society goals include the following:
Showcase Immersive World Research
Provide resources for conducting research in Immersive Worlds
Offer guest speaker events pertaining to SL Research
Offer Guest speaker events pertaining to SL Pedagogy
Provide a forum for dialogue to develop global collaboration
Note: The community members recognize the need for faculty participation in this community especially faculty responsible for supervision of graduate students. Faculty supervisor participation is not only recommended but imperative for graduate students to be successful in completing their programs.
